Kyiv, January 17, 2025 – The new Rehabilitation Department at the San Luca Clinic in Ivano-Frankivs’k was inaugurated yesterday as part of the “Health Care for Safety and Rehabilitation” program promoted by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). The initiative marks another step in Italy’s commitment to supporting the Ukrainian healthcare system, which has been severely strained by the ongoing conflict.
Implemented by the Civil Society Organization Missione Calcutta APS ETS and FOCSIV ETS, the project has enabled the installation of advanced medical equipment and the launch of a specialized training program for healthcare personnel. The initiative also benefits from synergy with the Sacro Cuore Don Calabria Hospital in Negrar.
This intervention is part of a broader program involving three other Ukrainian healthcare facilities: the Zaitsev Surgical Hospital and the Kharkiv Regional Hospital, as well as the Yasinia Public Hospital in the Transcarpathia region. In addition to improving healthcare infrastructure and staff training, the project includes a mine risk awareness campaign targeting over 90,000 beneficiaries, with the goal of enhancing community safety.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the San Luca Clinic on Via del Vescovo Sofron il Saggio No. 22, was attended by the Archbishop of Ivano-Frankivs’k, medical staff representatives, and an Italian delegation comprising representatives from Missione Calcutta APS ETS, FOCSIV ETS, Opera Don Calabria, Sacro Cuore Don Calabria Hospital in Negrar, and the Aiutiamoli a Vivere Foundation.
This initiative represents a tangible contribution to strengthening the Ukrainian healthcare system and aiding the recovery of conflict-affected communities, reaffirming the value of collaboration between international partners, civil society organizations, and local counterparts—key elements for the success of integrated and sustainable interventions.
The project is part of the emergency initiative aimed at supporting populations affected by the conflict in Ukraine and neighboring countries, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation with a contribution of 46.5 million euros. The initiative supports 26 projects led by Italian, international, and local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) providing life-saving humanitarian aid in the sectors of education, health, protection, water and sanitation, emergency response, and demining, reaching over 900,000 individuals.
The initiative follows the success of the 2022 AICS emergency call, which allocated 14 million euros to 14 projects in Ukraine, providing support to over 150,000 vulnerable people.
