The Kyiv Office is tasked with implementing the initiatives funded by Italian Cooperation in Ukraine and Moldova. Italy’s commitment to these two countries not only reflects an immediate humanitarian response to the ongoing war but also targeted support for alignment with the acquis communautaire (the adoption and implementation of EU regulations and political objectives shared by EU member states), in view of the prospective accession of both countries to the European Union.
Over the past two years, the total funding provided by Italian Cooperation – either already disbursed or in the process of finalization – for the implementation of humanitarian intervention projects, cooperation, first recovery, direct support to state budgets, and concessional loans in Ukraine, Moldova, and neighboring countries amounts to over 500 million euros.
The opening in 2023 of the new Italian Agency for Development Cooperation office in Kyiv, the first in all of Eastern Europe, is an important and significant signal that demonstrates Italy’s strong resolve to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in their pursuit of stability, prosperity, and development.
